The Johnnies (1964) By Lt.-Gen.Sir Geoffrey Evans KBE, CB, DSO

The story of the operations of the men of Z Force in Japanese-occupied Burma during World War II.

In 1942, the Japanese invasion of Burma had the British Army in full retreat. With no time to organize 'left behind' parties and a desperate need for information from within enemy-occupied territory, the British recruited the first ten Johnnies to go back into the jungle, behind enemy lines, and report on Japanese intentions.

These men, hand-picked from the Burma Forestry Department and timber companies, possessed the special qualifications needed for this dangerous mission. They knew the jungle areas and spoke fluent Burmese. They were physically tough and self-sufficient. This is the colorful, exciting story of the ten original Johnnies.
