In 2001, Devil's Due Press, initially using Image Comics to distribute their titles, revived the G.I. Joe property in comic book form. The success of the G.I. Joe comic allowed Devil's Due to branch out to more properties and eventually break off from Image to be their own company. While primarily continuing the stories from the Marvel Comics series, Devil's Due did experiment with creating their own continuities.
