Civilization Japanese Style (1942) By T. O'Neill-Lane

No more damning indictment of the Japanese has been penned than that by T. O'Neill-Lane in his book "Civilisation — Japanese Style," just published by Angus and Robertson, of Sydney. The author lived for some years in the East, he worked for Japanese firms, and he says he "ought to know."

"THEY never disbelieve the most fantastic claims to the greatness of their race," he writes. "This, perhaps, has led them to be so insufferably arrogant and full of bluff and bluster. They have no real idea what diplomacy, finesse, or compromise. means." Anything along these lines spells fear by the enemy to them. Force they understand, and understand thoroughly.

"The Japanese, at large, are hypnotised into the belief that theirs is the greatest country in the world and that all the robberies of brains and technique from abroad are the products of their mightily ingenious race."
